Vermont’s Dixie Six is a band well-loved by Island Arts’ audiences, and the group is well-known in the greater Burlington music scene. These six Vermont musicians focus on the sound and repertoire of Louis Armstrong’s All Stars of the 1950’s and 1960’s. The All Stars are famous for hits such as “Blueberry Hill,” “Mack the Knife,” and “Hello, Dolly!” which blew “the Beatles off the top of pop charts at the height of Beatlemania.” This lively jazz still thrills, appealing to all ages.
The Dixie Six players will be Charlie MacFayden, piano; Peter Williams, bass; Dave Whittle, drums; Phil Mead, trombone; Tony Pietricola, clarinet; and Bill Wicker on the cornet. Though retaining a traditional Dixie feel, band’s updated rhythm section gives a new energy to New Orleans classics and mid-century standards.
“Thanks to Island Arts for inviting us to play. We hope you enjoy the music as much as we enjoy playing it for you.”
