Enjoy an informal cabaret-style evening with a fine jazz trio of clarinet, grand piano, and double bass! Relax at your own table while Haiduck & Heckendorn perform all-time favorite music from the Great American Songbook.
The program opens with Neal Haiduck improvising on “If I Were a Bell” from “Guys and Dolls”. He is joined by David Heckendorn singing and playing Cole Porter’s “Night and Day.” Did you attend Island Arts Severance Jazz Trio concert last summer? You saw Haiduck bring down the house as guest clarinetist!
The program continues with tunes by Rogers and Hammerstein, George Gershwin, Johnny Mandel, Cy Coleman, Jerome Kern, Leonard Bernstein, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, and Burt Bacharach. And of course, the unofficial anthem of Vermont, “Moonlight in Vermont,” is given special treatment by these master musicians.
Haiduck & Heckendorn have performed and recorded together for many years in the New York City area. Clarinetist Haiduck has played jazz and classical music in New York City, Montréal, London, Europe, South America, and Japan. He now makes his home in Burlington, where he makes the lively jazz scene.
Pianist Heckendorn was the orchestrator for “Mr. Holland’s Opus.” His compositions have been performed in venues including St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Birdland in New York City, as well as in Europe and East Europe. He lives in Ulster County, New York.
Haiduck & Heckendorn are joined by Art DeQuasie, who is an accomplished jazz and classical bassist and the long-time Director of Operations for the Vermont Youth Orchestra.
